The High Court judges after considering Brexit (British Exit) case for weeks, today has ruled that; The British government can’t unilaterally trigger the process of leaving the European Union (EU) without formal approval from lawmakers.
This ruling comes as a blow to the British Prime Minister, Theresa May and could complicate and delay the terms of the United Kingdom’s exit negotiations with the EU. May said on behalf of the government that, it was “disappointed” with the ruling and that it would lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court.
The U.K. government voted to leave the EU at a referendum in June 2016 this year. May further said by the end of March 2016 the nation will leave, she will invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, the process that triggers the nation’s departure.
